Reminder: Learn about 'Rapid Transit' Route Along El Camino Real Thursday

The two Palo Alto meetings will allow residents to learn more about the proposal for "bus only" lanes up and down El Camino from Palo Alto to San Jose.

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is holding the two of four public meetings Thursday afternoon and evening to educate the public about the El Camino Real Rapid Transit Project.

The project would make changes to El Camino Real, from Palo Alto to San Jose, that is supposed to speed up bus service by installing bus-only lanes and "enhanced light rail-like stations." It would also include bike lanes.

The meetings will be Thursday, Oct. 20, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Hearst Education Conference Center, Jamplis Building, 3rd Floor, Rooms A and F, 795 El Camino Real, Palo Alto.

On Saturday, October 22, VTA will host a bus tour of the El Camino Real Rapid Transit Project. The tour will traverse the entire length of the project corridor and will make multiple stops to discuss elements of the project and hear from guest speakers.

The tour will begin at the Palo Alto Transit Center at 9:00AM and will return around 12:00PM. Following the tour, the community group, TransForm, will hold a discussion about the project and the future of El Camino Real. The tour is open to the public, but the sign-up cutoff date was Oct. 5. Interested parties may inquire at the meeting Thursday about the ability to accommodate riders at this juncture.
