Top 5 in Los Altos Crime: Oct. 8-9

A major injury bicycle accident when bikes collide on Foothill, driving under the influence, and grand theft from an unlocked car just some of the top items from the police blotter.

The following information was supplied by the Los Altos Police Department. Wherever arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction. A fuller report will follow on Saturday.

1. Driving Under the Influence

Oct. 8, 1:39 a.m., Distel Drive and El Camino Real. A driver was arrested for driving under the influence.

2. Major Injury Bicycle Accident

Oct. 8, 10:31 a.m., Foothill Expressway and Springer Road. Six bicyclists were biking on Foothill when the first bicyclist hit an object in the bike path, possibly a pine cone. He lost control of his bike, falling to the ground. The five bicyclists behind him were unable to stop and collided with the fallen cyclist. One cyclist suffered a laceration to the back of the head and was transported to Kaiser Hospital in Redwood City. The other five cyclists sustained abrasions and minor cuts and said they would seek medical help on their own.

3. Dog Bite

Oct. 8, 10:36 a.m., 1400 block of Oakhurst Ave., Los Altos. A dog bite was reported.

4. Grand Theft

Oct. 9, 10:19 a.m., 130 block of S. El Monte Ave. A grand theft from an unlocked vehicle was reporter.

5. Driving on a Suspended License

Oct. 9, 3:23 p.m., Mariposa and El Camino Real. A driver was cited to appear for driving on a suspended license and released.
