Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts planted flags, families gathered, veterans reflected and prayers were said at cemeteries in Palo Alto and Los Altos.
In countless cemeteries across the land, national and private, people paused to reflect on the 143rd anniversary of Memorial Day.
The new chapel at the Alta Mesa Cemetery in Palo Alto hosted a service as the wind lifted spirits along the Avenue of Flags. Veterans and families gathered at the Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Los Altos that was decorated with flags by Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
