Congrats, Malavika Ramareo! 7th-Grader Wins National Essay Contest for Los Altos Daughters of American Revolution

Malavika Ramareo, a seventh-grade student at Challenger Berryessa School, was announced as this year's 7th Grade National Winner of the Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest.

The Los Altos Chapter DAR each year hosts American History essay contests open to  fifth- through eighth-grade students as part of three local schools' history curriculum, and the top 10 essays are submitted to the local chapter.

After readers whittle down the essays, the best go to the state level ... then to the Southwest region ... then on to nationals.

And Malavika won!

She is invited to read her essay next week -- on June 26 -- at the Daughters of the American Revolution 123rd Continental Congress in Washington DC, and will be awarded $1,000. 

The annual American History essay contest is held in the fall, and the winning chapter essays, in each grade level, are presented at Los Altos' annual February business meeting. 

Malavika's win is a first for the Los Altos chapter!  

The Los Altos Chapter National Association Daughters of the American Revolution was established in 1950, and membership includes Southern San Mateo County and all of Santa Clara County.
