Phone 310-363-5870 Hometown St. Louis, Missouri Birthday October 29 Ever since John first started working for his college newspaper in 2004, he has been hooked on journalism.  While his visual skills as a photojournalist are his strongest, John also has experience as a writer and multimedia journalist. John holds a Masters degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri as well as a marketing degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Previously, he has worked for newspapers such as the Reno Gazette-Journal and Columbia Missourian and has also worked as a coordinator for the Pictures of the Year International photojournalism competition. As a freelance photojournalist, his work has appeared in publications such as TIME, People Magazine and the Wall Street Journal.  Before moving to California, he spent a year in Western Australia working on a documentary project on aboriginal diabetes in the rural Australian Outback. And yes, he saw lots of kangaroos. When not working for Patch, John enjoys spending time in the outdoors exploring the many beautiful places California has to offer. He also considers himself a big "beer nerd" and can be found anywhere good craft beer is served (and thankfully there are so many good breweries in Southern California). Your Beliefs At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable.   Politics How would you describe your political beliefs? Are you registered with a certain party? I am most definitely a moderate when it comes to politics. If you looked over my shoulder on election day, you would find me checking the boxes for both Republican and Democratic candidates in various races. I am not registered with a certain party, but if I did register, it would be as an independent. Religion How religious would you consider yourself? I am Catholic and went to Catholic school for 12 years but would not call myself religious. When I start feeling guilty about things for no real reason, I usually blame it on my Catholic upbringing (joke). Local Hot-Button Issues What do you think are the most important issues facing the community? Where do you stand on each of these issues? I normally do not take a stance on any issue until I have heard all sides of the argument and done thorough research on the issue. That being said, I am still learning the ins and outs of Hermosa Beach and won't form any opinions until I am well informed.
