An Accident at Bus Barn Theater Sends One to the Hospital, Live Wires on Fire in the Roadway, and More

Incidents from the Los Altos Police log, from May 4-10.

Here’s a tip – if you’re going to engage in “suspicious behavior” – otherwise known as “taking drugs,” and we honestly hope you don’t – perhaps you shouldn’t do it in a car parked in the parking lot of a grocery store, in broad daylight, for all the world to see. I mean, unless you want to get arrested, that is.   On Friday just before 1 p.m., police received a complaint from the 900 block of Oxford Street of water running down the street. Officers responded, but found the amount of water and the reason for it being in the road to be innocent enough, and that no violation had been committed. No report was taken. A night at the theater turned scary May 4, when police and paramedics were called to the Bus Barn Theater at 97 Hillview Ave. …

KMVT, Santa Clara DA and Gilroy PD Team Up

To help warn homeowners against scams, law enforcement agencies take advantage of the visibilty of community access television studio.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office and KMVT 15 have partnered to created public service announcements that could help prevent crimes. This past Friday, Deputy District Attorney Janet Berry and Gilroy Police Department Sgt. Chad Gallacinao taped a segment about landscaping scams taking place. "We are thrilled with this situation," said Sean Webby, spokesman for the DA's office. "We don't have the skills or experience to do even an amateur job." According to Webby, some landscapers have targeted elderly people in Gilroy and do a mediocre—if not bad—job, and then leave with the victim's money, without rendering good service. These public service announcement, he explained, would hopefully help prevent people from getting …

Vehicle Associated with LaMar Case in Custody, More Tips Needed

Is she alive? The red, mid-1990s Volkswagon Jetta that's believed to be associated with Sierra LaMar's disappearance is in custody, but investigators need more tips from the public before they can move forward.

The red Volkswagen Jetta that authorities believe to be associated with the disappearance of Sierra LaMar is now in custody, but investigators need additional tips from the public before they can pursue the vehicle’s owner or anyone else who may have been driving the car.  “As for the owner or driver, we're not there yet,” Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jose Cardoza said. “One thing you don’t want to do on a high profile criminal case is you don’t want to single out anyone for being associated unless you have a little more [info].” The association between the red, mid-1990s Jetta Volkswagen and the LaMar case is based on surveillance footage taken the day Sierra went missing on March 16. Investigators reviewed hundreds of hours worth …

Investigators Identify Vehicle Linked to Sierra LaMar Disappearance

A red Volkswagon Jetta similar to the one in the attached picture has been associated with the missing Morgan Hill teen.

A red Volkswagon Jetta has been linked to the disappearance of missing Morgan Hill teen Sierra LaMar. The association was made based off of investigative review and video surveillance sources who identified the same make and model of the vehicle as being involved in the LaMar case, Sgt. Jose Cardoza of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a prepared statement Monday morning. Personnel from the Sheriff’s Office and its detective division are collaborating with multiple local and federal agencies to conduct follow-up investigations on leads that developed over the course of the investigation. Some leads came from the county crime lab's forensic report that was released in mid-April. Items of evidence, like personal items that …

Duck Gets Stuck in Storm Drain, Stolen Bikes, Protesters at Whole Foods and More

Our weekly roundup of incidents from the Los Altos Police log, from April 27 to May 3.

Parents – remember to keep an eye on your kids while shopping! After all, we’ve gotta think it’s pretty embarrassing when the cops show up at the business you’re patronizing and reprimand you because your kids just called 9-1-1 from the business’ phone while you weren’t looking. We do sympathize, though.   Los Altos Police started off the morning Friday by serving a warrant from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office to a suspect in the 700 block of Berry Avenue. The male suspect was wanted for an outstanding DUI charge. A little bit of good news came for one family Friday morning around 9:45 a.m. when a prior missing juvenile report was cancelled. The reporting party called back to say the juvenile had been located. Phew!   One unlucky…
