The city council members in discussing sharing land with the school district indicated that theRead More sharing would take the form of a lease for 10 or 15 years and would be for daytime use only. This does NOT eliminate a park!

Furthermore they discussed a requirement that the softball field remain intact. They said day timeRead More access would need to be preserved for the tennis courts and tot lot. Again, this does not hurt the use of the park at all. Who the heck thinks the softball field is used during school hours at present? Who does this? Some Moms from the nearby houses? Some toddler playing T ball? I don't think so.

But wait David Roode, you said that doing anything different with Hillview means that every serviceRead More at Hillview must be eliminated from our area (they cannot be relocated, for instance). You used several different aliases to do this. Fair's fair: doing anything different with Rosita means all benefits there will be eliminated... or maybe instead you should just get out of the way and let the adults figure this out. Your credibility is shot.

In the 70's I almost accidentally stepped in front of a train on Broadway in RWC. Crossing guardRead More down, southbound train on east track; after it passed I walked across the track and there was a northbound train on the west track which I did not see/hear until it was almost too late. I think that is what happened to Thor who had some sweet non identical twin sisters that I saw one day in so cal in the 90's.

Immigration crisis? I think that is a "typo"....didn't you mean "invasion"? IRead More mean basically that is what has happened over the last 30 yrs...we are just sugar coating it to make us feel we are in control of the situation and we are not. But what do we expect Mexican nationals to do? Stay in a country where their whole family may be desimated by gun toting hired guns (paramilitary) in Mexico's? Of course not... we would all run for our lives also. We must use empathy if we are to remain a conscious people outside of whatever our government's actions and shortcomings maybe.....such as creating chaos in a country by sending paramilitary in order to take over the drug cartels...if our country was not full of drug intoxicated victims then Mexico would not have a problem. Now you know why our military has not been deployed to the border....bcause our boys would refuse the mission. So obviously we are relying on paramilitaries to do our dirty work. We should all be appalled at what is happening. Avi

I use to feel the way you did. Personality, the business class and particularly in Orange County hasRead More hired them for jobs for over 30 years. In fact some of the stats by the US Census while lots of conservatives will not agree with is some of the illegal immigrants left Santa Ana and Anaheim since they couldn't find jobs. The Census shows OC aging and Hispanic immigrants tend to make the county younger but OC is now about 37 years old. Hispanic immigrants tend to have more children and bring the average down. The US Census shows a dropped from 2.8 in 2007 to 2.12 now. Granted, there are still lots of illegal immigrants in the OC but at one time they were over 300,000. As for conservatives Texas has almost as bad a problem since business there hired them to do construction and service jobs like dishwashers and fast food. Also, OC kid population has been dropping which is why I think at least some illegals went home or to other parts of California or out of state. The 5 and under population is now onl 6.1 which is slightly below the US average and the under 18 population is about 23.3 also under the national average.. In fact Hispanics were more foreign born as a percentage of the workforce under George W Bush in 2007 when they represent 56 and are now at 49. The only reason I believe that illegal Hispanics are coming and going particularly from Mexico is the birthrate is dropping they tend to have near the 3.0 figure in the US while native born Hispanics are closer to 2.0.

The Central American kids crisis is a law passed under George W Bush because of human trafficking itRead More went to far in the direction of protecting them. On the other hand, Mexico we can just return the kids without having a court hearing that the 2008 act made different for the Central American kids. The hypercracy over many Republicans on immigration allowed companies like here in Orange County and Texas to hire them but pushed border control when probably getting rid of the job magnet a long time ago even under George W Bush's first term would have solved the problem. In Orange County that met not hiring every maid, landscaper, car washer, fast food worker, day labor, low skilled assembly worker usually in garment work or sometimes medical devices or aerospace assembly, and prep cooks. These are just some of the jobs that have been done by illegal immigrants in Orange County the passed 30 years. They entered Santa Ana in the late 1970's and started with simple factory work that is now in Mexico because of NAFTA.

DMJ, it isn't the Moms ... it is the schools buying the devices and insisting the kids use themRead More these days.

Get off here commenting and parent your kids, if you have them. If not, try being a parent for aRead More day! Yall sound like people from the 70's about rock music! Get over yourself! Good grief. Commenting on comics, a new age.

Anybody ever wonder why bars have parking lots? When are the cannabis growers going to have anRead More opportunity to set up a booth at farmer's markets? I would much rather be driven home by a medicated driver than a drunk driver!
robin July 12, 2014 at 02:24 pm
Great...... bad enough dealing with a bunch of drunks at night and at the OC market, now we have toRead More deal with a bunch of drunks at the farmer's market here. BAD idea... terribly bad idea... sunday morning drunk drivers...... once again - bad idea.
After another baby dies after being left in a hot car, a mother recounts a mistake that might have cost her daughter's life.
RDJ July 12, 2014 at 11:33 pm
I am sorry for your loss as I too have lost a family member to a drunk driver but it is not the sameRead More thing as forgetting a child. I have also lost a child and even though it was not my fault I feel guilty for his loss. People said that the father that lost his child here in the Georgia case loved his child too but facts have come out that show he intentionally left his son in the car to die. He also used the excuse that he forgot. So how do any of us know if these parents truly forgot or intentionally forgot? Point is that these parents may care about their children but at some point something else became more important to them. People let other things take precedence over their children when they should not. I am simply pointing out that parents who keep their priorities straight don't forget the important things like their children. There are bad parents out there that don't forget their kids. There are parents that are good parents up to the point that they forget they are a parent. There is nothing that anyone can do to keep this from happening when ultimately it is the parents responsibility to remember they are parents first and everything else second. I am not trying to argue with you. I am just stating that as far as I am concerned nothing comes before my children. It shouldn't be so far fetched to think other parents should feel the same for their own children. I hope you find peace one day that your wife is in a better place and that maybe her loss changed the course of that man's life for the better. I know that doesn't make it easier but I like to think God has a purpose for taking our loved ones. Sometimes that is what keeps me going. God bless.
RDJ July 12, 2014 at 11:36 pm
And trust me when I say I am not complacent when it comes to my children. Especially after losing myRead More son. Losing him made me realize how quickly things can change and I do everything I can to keep my kids safe. They are always on my mind regardless of where I am or what I am doing.
John Asmar July 13, 2014 at 03:53 am
RDJ there is no other solution and the car will not catch on fire. Modern cars are loaded withRead More electronics. And the system would be simple to use and the responsibility of the parent to make sure it is used and understand how it works. Like leaving your keys in the ignition. My car warns me that i did that. Either way laws will not stop it and people are per-occupied with other things in life it seems to remember a baby is in the car when they go to work. Someone suggested that the day care folks make phone calls when kids do not show up. So if that law was passed would they be responsible and sued. My system would work rather nicely. People think by making new laws things will change. They don't . But there are groups of people out there making useless laws all day long and nothing is accomplished with that. But i still need a name for it. Just my thoughts on the issue

Glad to see limits (hopefully) being place on high school football. The research shows time andRead More time again the damage being done to the human brain after consistent hits to the head. Minimizing the risk seems like the natural and best thing to do.
JMarsh July 10, 2014 at 02:15 pm
I totally agree with limiting the chance of brain trauma. One thing we need to remember is thatRead More junior high and high school students' brains are still developing.

For those who think it is ok for your kid to get their brain throttled, do you support their use ofRead More drugs, too? Mixed messages.
