Weekend Fun: Live Theater, Music, Crab Feed and More

Get out and enjoy the weekend with many events in and around Los Altos.

A massive, 40-foot swell is expected Friday, Jan. 24 for the invitational competition of the world’s best surfers. Viewers are not allowed on the beach because of high tide and surges. A Viewing Festival will be held on the grounds of the Oceano Hotel & Spa, just down the road from Mavericks in Princeton Harbor. 

‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’
The Los Altos Stage Company is performing the Tennessee Williams classic “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24-26 at the Bus Barn Theatre, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos. Additional shows will be 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays (except Feb. 2) through Feb. 16. For details and ticket prices, call 650-941-0551.

Free Organ Recital at Stanford Memorial Church

University Organist Dr. Robert Huw Morgan will kick off a year-long celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Fisk-Nanney organ with a concert on Friday, Jan. 24 in the Stanford Memorial Church. He will be performing music from the 17th century to the present day. Admission is free and open to the public.

Mushroom Hike

Hidden Villa is sponsoring a mushroom hike through its Hidden Villa Woods at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at 26870 Moody Road, Los Altos Hills. Participants will learn to identify and appreciate the wide variety of mushrooms on its grounds. A naturalist guide from the Mycological Society of San Francisco discusses both edible and poisonous varieties. Hikes are leisurely. No collecting allowed, however. The cost is $12 per person. Because space is limited, reservations should be made by visiting the Hidden Villa website. For general questions, call 650-949-8650. 

Trickster Tales

Storyteller Enid Davis will share the adventures of Anansi the Spider and other African trickster stories in a family-oriented program at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Los Altos Library, 13 S. San Antonio Road. Admission is free. 

Crab Feed

Mountain View Rotary plans an all-you-can-eat Dungeness crab feed 4:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Buddhist Temple of Mountain View, 575 Shoreline Blvd. The menu also includes salads, bread and beverages. No-host beer, wine and soft-drinks also will be available. Tickets are $50 for adults; $20 for children ages 3 through 10. Proceeds benefit local charities.
