Looking to get your weekend off with a bang? First there's the downtown Farmers Market on State Street on Thursday evening from 4 to 8 p.m.

And then, get ready for a robust First Friday for Dads and Grads, natch, 6 to 8 p.m. in downtown Los Altos!

Maybe your grad is already whooping it up (that's you, all you St. Francis, Los Altos High, Mountain View High, Alta Vista and Freestyle Academy folks).

By Friday, all Los Altos students should be new grads, since Homestead High School and Pinewood High School are graduating Thursday. So, step out!

Los Altos Forward, which plans most of the First Friday events, says the evening packs in great activities for visitors of all ages. Many downtown merchants are providing First Friday discounts and scrumptious refreshments and beverages.

Musicians for the night  include Noah and the Shrammettes, The Human Parallel, and The Sunday Seven.

You can enter the First Friday drawing for a merchant gift certificate by purchasing merchandise during the evening or by playing the "Dads & Grads" game. There are over 20 gift certificates from local merchants with a total value of over $400.

As usual, the First Friday headquarters is at 164 Main and is the place to pick up programs, enter the drawing, or get information.

Hungry? As always, over 20 downtown restaurants will be open and serving a wide selection of cuisines. This is Los Altos, so there is plenty of free parking.

First Fridays are sponsored by the following merchants and organizations: Gold Sponsors: BK Collections, Los Altos Community Chiropractic, Los Altos Community Foundation, Los Altos Town Crier, Los Altos Downtown Property owners, Nature Gallery, Passerelle Investment Company, and Wilbur Properties. Silver Sponsors: Area 151, Bumble Café, Fast Frame, Fiesta Vallarta, Gallery 9 Los Altos, Los Altos Hardware, Lulu's, Play Los Altos, Red Racer Hobby Shop, The Alley Burgerhouse, and The Makery.
