The Week Ahead: Hitting the Ground at Full Speed

The first full week of the new year has many deciding if their resolutions will hold any water. This week looks toward local recreation to keep Los Altos moving.

Hand Chalk Lettering

Tuesdays starting January 7 from 4 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. At The Makery (170 State Street)

Teens 14 and up work with a graphic designer to make chalkboard signs. All materials are included and the classes are open to all skill levels. Classes are small so please call ahead to (650) 397-5613 for availability.

Art Studio

Wednesdays from January 8 until April 2 from 9:30 a.m. - noon in Hillview room 12

Have an art project that you cannot work on at home? Need some outside eyes to look at your work and provide critique? Go to the Art Studio at the Recreation Department! Artists can register for the full session or pay $3 for a single session ($1 for seniors).

Kids Beginning Knitting

Wednesdays starting January 8 from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. at The Makery (170 State Street)

Kids work with their hands in this beginning knitting class! Children 6 and up take lessons from a knitting pro from prepping yarn to casting on stitches. Call ahead to (650) 397-5613 for availability as the classes are small.

LAYC Dance: Pirates and Princesses

Friday January 10 from 7:30 p.m. - 10 p.m. at the Los Altos Youth Commission building

LAYC Dances continue! The monthly dances for 7th and 8th graders living in or attending a school in Los Altos provide a safe an fun place for 'tweens. Participants must have a LAYC Membership Card. Information on how to get a LAYC Membership card can be found online at losaltosrecreation.org.

Helix: Animals in the Dark

Friday January 10 from 6 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. At Helix (316 State Street)

Visit Helix for a glimpse into the darkness as Amisha Gadani gives a talk about animals who live deep underground or in the ocean where no light can reach. For more information call (650) 559-0821

Music Around the World

Fridays from January 10 until March 14 in Hillview room 4

Learn music from around the world with your child in this immersive set of classes in either Multicultural English or Spanish. Designed for children up to 4-years-old this program requires no previous language experience and highlights young children's ability to absorb language and music.
