Volunteer Par Excellence: Matt Cuson

Robin Abrams provides a persuasive list of ways this man has unstintingly made this community a great place to be for kids.

Editor's Note: The 29th Annual Join Community Service Volunteer Awards gave public and lavish recognition for nine individuals who were chosen from scores of nominations. The strong ethos of volunteerism in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills is what many credit as the thing that makes the communities so strong.

isn't adequate for nine people who have quietly made big contributions over years. So, throughout the coming days, we are reprinting the text from the introductions made for each individual at the awards event.

Robin Abrams introduced Matt Cuson this way.

We loaned this volunteer in the very early 90s to Cupertino, but fortunately for us since 1990 this volunteer has developed quite a pedigree in our communities.

  • This volunteer led “Net Day" to wire one of the local elementary schools
  • This volunteer served as the coordinator of Science Fair for five years and held countless roles with PTA
  • This volunteer has continued with his involvement with our public schools and branched out to serve as Community Rep on the General Plan Advisory Committee to Los Altos City Council
  • For 9 years this volunteer has served as an AYSO soccer coach
  • Little League has benefitted for well over 12 years as this volunteer served in roles as manager, player’s agent, and currently serves on the Little League’s Board of Directors.
  • For 7 years this volunteer has served as a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee on Finance to the Los Altos School District.

Like the many volunteers that Los Altos and Los Altos Hills recognizes each year, this volunteer demonstrates unique attributes as they work in the community.

This volunteer serves where the need exists, not where this volunteer has children involved.

This volunteer encourages those organizations and volunteers around them to measure results. Often this volunteer can be quoted as saying, “If it is worth doing, it is worth measuring.”

This volunteer shares with his volunteer organizations a deliberate sense of humor that bonds the volunteer team and enables the group to reach a higher level of performance.

This volunteer encouraged us to laugh at ourselves when Wynne Satterwhite (principal at Los Altos High School) inspired Los Altos High School to create its first Tech Week, and when the installation of the cell tower surprised us.

His day job is serving as marketing and general manager in leading high tech companies like HP, Logitech and Dolby.

I am delighted to introduce MATT CUSON.
