Santa's Special Appearance for Kids with Cancer at NASA Ames

It was all about Santa Claus for the little ones at Saturday's Cops Care Cancer Foundation annual Christmas Party.

The party in a hangar at NASA Ames Research Center on Saturday was a kid's dream come true with balloons, games, a pony, cool police vehicles, a bounce house and lots of junk food.

The Christmas Fantasy Flight party, sponsored by the Cops Care Cancer Foundation, wasn't just any kids' party, it was a chance for 114 children with cancer and their families to take a much needed break from oncology wards and medical treatments.

Joining the kids were some of the most popular costumed cartoon characters roaming around the hanger offering hugs and high fives.

Spiderman? Cool! Cinderella? Sweet! But in the end, it was all about the Big Man himself: Santa Claus.

It seems his sleigh broke down, so a San Jose police helicopter had to pick him up and drop him off outside the hanger to the delight of the waiting children.

Then Santa took his seat, and all the kids got to pose with the jolly old man and tell him what they want for Christmas, followed by presents handed out by South Bay police officers. Like magic, the presents were exactly what the kids wanted.

The day was made possible by San Jose and Sunnyvale police officers who donate from their paychecks throughout the year, and stage two fundraisers. Yahoo!, Inc., also donated services and funds to Saturday's event.
