Sports Camps on the Peninsula

Active kids just getting to learn how to play sports will enjoy these sports-focused camps that combine a range of sports to master.

NEW St. Francis All Sports Camp (Mountain View) St. Francis High School has several summer camps, including this all sports camp is designed for youngsters ages 6 - 12, and provides group instruction in a variety of sports including football, basketball, baseball, soccer, softball, track, water-sports, and court games. The camp is staffed by SFHS faculty and students, and the focus is on fun. The four weekly camps run from June 17 to July 12, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., after which swim lessons and after camp care are available for $125 extra. Weekly fee is $325 per week, and lunch and a T-shirt are included.

NEW St. Francis Advanced Sports Camp

(Mountain View) St. Francis High School’s camp for Grades 4 to 9 offers a wide selection of advanced camps

that are designed to provide players a chance to improve both their skill level and knowledge level of a particular sport. Each advanced camp is run by the Head Varsity Coach at Saint Francis High School, and is staffed by members of his or her coaching staff. They are divided into Boys, Girls and Co-Ed camps and sports include golf, field hockey, track & field, baseball, basketball, soccer, swimming and more. 

Decathlon Sports Club (Los Altos, Woodside). This interesting camp has structure to teach individual sports, but is rooted in the days-gone-by summer traditions of water fights, swimming, treasure hunts, trivia, arts & crafts, hide and seek, tug-of-war, kick-the-can, board games, card-trading, prizes.... that makes summer feel like summer. It it held in four-week sessions, three days a week or five days a week (with a limited number of two-week sessions,) at Blach Intermediate School, June 17 to July 12 and July 15 to Aug. 2. Begun in 1981, it’s been around long enough for campers to become counselors themselves. Fees are $1,380 for a full four-week session and varying rates depending on the number of days per week. Extended care is available. 

Golden Eagle Sports Camp  (Los Altos and Cupertino) Based at Los Altos High School and Homestead High School in Cupertino, this camp allows kids to try out a plethora of sports with all the bells and whistles a high school campus can offer. Children ages 5-13 can get instruction in swimming, tennis, golf,  softball, badminton, as well as indulge in summer pleasure such as a slip and slide and barbeques. Its core strength is its swimming program that turn non-swimmers into swimmers with water-safe capabilities. Many of its campers come back to be counselors. The $25 registration fee is waived for sign ups before April 14

Spartan Sports This camp offers multi-sport camps for Grades 3-6 and sport specific camps for Grades 6-9, taught by the Mountain View High School athletic staff and student athletes, and raises money for its program. It is running a Spring Break camp (Los Altos School District calendar) April 8 - April 12, to hone skills “in a high-energy, fast-paced environment.” Open to boys and girls in grades 4 through 8, and will run from 9 am - 12 pm. Prices for the camps run ($250-275), and drat it, you just missed the March 15 early-bird discount.

Shoreline Water Sports (Mountain View) For kids age 5 to 11, Camp Shoreline offers a water-sports oriented weekly summer program. Mornings are spent learning to kayak, canoe, row or cycle the pedalboats.  Afternoons are for playing games, participating in craft activities, taking a sailboat ride, hiking in the natural surroundings, learning about Shoreline Park, birdwatching in its wildlife sanctuary, or a visit to the historic Rengstorff House museum. The rate is $365.  For ages 9 to 15, Windsurfing and Sailing Camp, at two levels, is offered for $399, Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with extended care available. All weekly programs run June 3 to Aug. 16.
