Language Immersion Camps on the Peninsula and in the South Bay

German, Spanish and Mandarin immersion camps are offered for kids who may discover a facility with language and for parents who are hoping to add to their children's exposure to new experiences.

 

Language immersion camps have become popular as parents seek to give children another experience, and perhaps a small edge, in academics.

German-American School of Palo Alto Children ages 3 to 12 participate in a variety of fun outdoor activities, all conducted in German.

LanguageArts (Palo Alto) Children ages 6 to 12 can immerse themselves in Spanish, French, Hindi, Mandarin or German through a variety of engaging, hands-on activities fthis language school in downtown Palo Alto. Weekly camps run June 3 to Aug. 16, and a pre-registration discount is available until April 30.

International School of the Peninsula (Palo Alto) This camp offers two-week sessions, June 24 to Aug. 2, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Chinese, French, and Spanish. There will be no Chinese program for grades 2 to 5 at its Cohn campus this year, due to construction on site. Early bird rates are in effect until March 15 (amount not specified on website).

Mandarin Culture Camp (Mountain View) Offered through Mountain View Recreation, by i-Immersion, this three-hour morning camp for one week Aug. 5 to 9 week is themed “Let’s Go on a Treasure Hunt,” in Mandarin Chinese. Located at the Recreation Center, and aimed at children 4-8 years old. Fee is $188 for residents and $235 for non-residents. There is also a $30 course materials fee.

Premier International Language Academy Mandarin Camp (San Jose) Different themed weeks for grade K to 2 run from June 17 to 21, focusing on LEGOs, Little Chef’s Kithcen, Little Einsteins (science), Sports, Galaxy Explorers and Little Gardeners. Most instruction (except the morning LEGO session) is in Mandarin. Located at the nexus of Saratoga, Campbell and Cupertino near Westgate Shopping Center.

Yew-Chung International School (Mountain View) No prior Chinese is necessary for this Mandarin-immersion summer camps, for Grades 1 to 5. The four-week, daylong (8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.) program runs June 17 to July 12 is themed around the Silk Road. Students will raise silk worms, and explore drama, music, arts and crafts, and go on field trips.  The Camp culminates in an Art and Craft Exhibition and Dramatic Performance for family and friends. The fee is $1,475 and aftercare is available. The early bird deadline was Feb. 28 for a $100 discount, but there is a $50 discount for camp sign-up by April 8. (650) 903-0986.  

Spanish Culture Camp (Mountain View) Offered through Mountain View Recreation, by i-Immersion, this three-hour morning camp is offered July 15 to 19, with the theme, “Let’s Go On a Space Trip.” Aimed at children 4-8 years old. Fee is $188 for residents, $235 for non-residents and there is a $30 materials fee collected at class.

Let’s Play in Spanish / Juguemos en Español (Mountain View, Campbell) Children 3 to 9 years old are fully immersed in the Spanish language through a variety of activities in weekly half-day or full day camps. June 17 to July 26. There is the option to attend two, three and five days a week. Fees range from $145 to $299 for full-day camps and a $25 discount for sign up by March 22.
