Tosky Qualifies for 200 IM Finals at Olympic Trials

Paly grad Jasmine Tosky is a step closer to the Olympics after qualifying for Thursday's 200 meter individual medley finals

Jasmine Tosky, who graduated from Paly less than a month ago, is a step closer to the Olympics after qualifying for the 200 meter individual medley finals at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Tosky had the 15th fastest time going into the semi-finals, but jumped in the rankings and secured a spot in Thursday evening's race.

Tosky also swam in the 200 meter freestyle Wednesday, finishing eleventh and failing to qualify for the finals.

On Thursday, in addition to the 200 IM finals, Tosky will race in the qualifying rounds of the 200 meter butterfly, as well as the 100 meter freestyle later this week. Fellow Paly graduate Byron Sanborn will also be competing Thursday in the qualifying rounds of the 200-meter breaststroke.

Paly grad Jasmine Tosky qualified for two semifinal races in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, Neb. She will swim in the 200 meter free and 200 meter individual medley tonight, with hopes of moving on to the finals on Thursday.

Tosky finished the quarterfinals of the 200 free with a time of 1:59.68, good enough for 12th overall in the quarterfinals out of the 99 swimmers entered. In the 200 medley quarterfinals, Tosky’s time of 2:15.55 landed her in 15th, barely making the cut for qualifying.

“So far, I believe the meet’s going well,” Tosky said. “There are no expectations for me since this is my first ever trials, [which let] me just concentrate on myself and the pool.”

Tosky’s best chance to qualify for the finals comes in the 200 free, where she was just one and a half seconds behind the top qualifier.

“I’m a little anxious because you never know what will happen,” Tosky said.
