Los Altos and Los Altos Hills Residents Finish in the Boston Marathon

Eight locals were in the country's oldest marathon that ran Monday.

Nearly 24,000 marathoners finished the storied Boston Marathon on Monday, including eight Los Altos and Los Altos Hills residents.

Jeffrey F. Hamel, 35, was the top-placing Los Altan, finishing in 3:03:59, or three hours, three minutes and 59 seconds.

Lauren Tippets, 25, who placed 134th in her group in her first Boston Marathon in 2010, returned this year and finished 3:10:54. Her 2010 time was 3:06:03.

The world's oldest marathon, the Boston Marathon is a prestigious event that runners spend months or even years training for, just to meet the qualifying standards for the grueling 26.2-mile journey.

Monday was the 115th running of the race. Others who finished the run included:

  • Paul B. Johnson, 28, of Los Altos, who finished in 3:29:19.
  • Mohdeh Taleblan, 46, of Los Altos Hills,  ran in 3:47:22.
  • Lynn Tuchinda Peng, 38, of Los Altos, ran in 3:55:32.
  • John D. Johnson, 58, of Los Altos, finished in 3:56:13
  • Lisa Cheskin, 48, of Los Altos, finished in 4:06:50.
  • Claudia Montalban, 47, of Los Altos, ran in 4:21:40.
