Hike: Finding Edible Food

This is a season associated with thankfulness… for open spaces, for family, for friends, and for freedom. For the earliest Americans, it was thankfulness for a simple meal. Join docents Marilyn and Bill Bauriedel, and Tommi and Strether Smith on this hike to discover a few staple items on this land that were harvested for food by Native Americans and early European settlers. You won’t be able to consume any edible discoveries, but you are welcome to take photos and keep a log. If you are lucky, you might even see a wild turkey or two. This walk will be at a moderate pace and cover about 5 miles along the Mora, Wildcat Loop, and Upper Wildcat Canyon Trails.

Where to meet:

Meet at the Rancho San Antonio Preserve/County Park main parking lot. From I-280, take Foothill Boulevard south and turn right almost immediately onto Cristo Rey Drive. Continue about 1 mile, veer right around the traffic circle, and turn left into the Preserve/County Park. Go to the lot farthest to the right and meet near the restroom at the bottom of the hill.
