LAHS Student of the Month: Josh Cohen

Cohen is a three-sport athlete, active in service clubs, and is now working on ServeSurfer, an application to make it easier to find service opportunities at Los Altos High School.

Congratulations to Los Altos High's February 2012 Student of the Month, Josh Cohen. The Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District designates this honor to a student from one or more of its high schools each month and provides the text of its nomination to Patch. Cohen was honored at the Feb. 13 meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Los Altos is proud to present Josh Cohen as February’s student of the month.

Josh is involved in many clubs on campus. The first club he is involved in, which he has been a part of for 3 years, is Interact. Interact is a club that does community service projects like hospital visits, or beach cleanups.

He is also a part of One Dollar For Life, for which he serves as treasurer. ODFL holds fundraisers and other events to raise money for children and schools in developing countries. Last summer, he went on the club’s trip to Nicaragua, where he stayed with a host family and helped build a school.

Josh is also a part of Talon, our school’s newspaper. He was selected to be a staff writer this year. Josh likes Talon because it’s a great way to keep in touch with what’s going on in the community, and it is great journalism experience.

However, Josh’s contributions to Los Altos do not stop at student life.

He is also a three-sport athlete, too. Josh has run cross-country for the last 3 years, and plans to run track too, which he has been apart of since freshmen year. His track events are the mile and two mile. He also played attack for our relatively new lacrosse team the last two years.

Josh is currently working on creating an application called ServeSurfer. ServeSurfer will put all community service opportunities at LAHS in one place as to make it easier for individuals and clubs to get involved in the community.

In the future, Josh hopes to study engineering. Though he has not yet decided where he wants to go,we are confident that he will excel at any school he chooses. Congratulations Josh!
