What to Expect At Monday Night's School Board Meeting

The Los Altos School District holds a special board meeting at 6 p.m. Monday during which the public can hear the details of the proposed tentative agreement between the district and teachers and staff.

The public can get its first look at the details of the proposed agreement between the Los Altos School District and teachers and staff Monday night.

The tentative agreement has been highly anticipated following the passage of the Measure E parcel tax, which is one element of trying to bridge the district's budget gap, along with pledges made by the Los Altos Education Foundation and. At one point, the district had as much as a $6.5 million gap to fill for the 2011-12 year, but the shortfall has shrunk over the last few months, with the passage of the Measure E parcel tax and more optimistic assumptions of additional revenue from the state.

The board will meet in closed session at 6 p.m. to discuss pending litigation, and then convene at 7 p.m. in open session, during which Assistant Superintendant Randall Kenyon will present the tentative agreement.

The body will also consider moving its regularly scheduled June 20 meeting to June 27, because that meeting date will allow ten working days to elapse for public comment on the tentative agreement before voting.
