What to Expect at LASD School Board Meeting

On Monday night, the Los Altos School Board will discuss who might represent them in ad hoc committee meetings with Bullis Charter School and with the county board of education.

In their first board meeting after the state Supreme Court declined to hear their appeal against Bullis Charter School, Los Altos School District trustees will discuss how contemplated meetings with that school, and with the county school board might be conducted.

Even before the high court development, the school board had discussed initiating ad-hoc committee meetings with the Bullis Charter School (BCS) in an attempt to open dialogue where there had been little. In the same meeting, the board members had discussed also initiating ad-hoc meetings with members of the Santa Clara County Board of Education, which administers the charter of BCS.

Additionally, the board will discuss entering into an agreement with BCS for one LASD board member to conduct open, non-binding discussions with one BCS board member.

Randall Kenyon, assistant superintendent for business services, will brief the board on the impact of the governor's proposed budget on Los Altos School Board. As with previous years, the 2012-13 budget will be uncertain for months becaus of external factors, including the state budget's passage. This year, school districts must contend with the governor's intention to put a tax initiative on the November ballot, that will make the local school budget even more uncertain for many months.
