Steven Taglio Sworn In As New Los Altos School Board Trustee

Monday night's business started with the swearing in of the new trustee, after a long and affectionate goodbye to outgoing trustee Margot Harrigan.

Steven Taglio was sworn in as interim trustee Monday night during the Los Altos School Board's annual organizational meeting, but not before a packed house said goodbye to his predecessor.

Taglio, a longtime fixture in the schools, district, and at board meetings, is filling the remaining year on the term of board member Margot Harrigan, who announced her resignation after a 12-year tenure on the board.

A series of speakers recognized Harrigan, who opted not to serve out a term that was extended by the board's decision to hold even-year elections.

Sworn in at the beginning of the business-end of the meeting, Taglio went right to work, which included voting on the board's officers, the appointment to committees and some informational updates.

The board unanimously approved Taglio's appointment Nov. 14, heavily weighting his experience at the PTA level, a perspective Harrigan had brought to the board. Taglio has served on the Los Altos School District Technology Committee, the Covington School Committee, the Covington Site Council. He was PTA president at that school 2009-2011.

The interim position is good for one year, after which he has the option to run for election to a four-year term.
