Nancy Davis Hired as New Principal at Almond School

A former Covington principal returns from a leave of absence to step into Terri Stromfeld's vacated post.

With less than two weeks until the start of the 2011-12 school year, has a new principal.

And none too soon either. The Los Altos School District board approved the hiring of Nancy Davis Thursday night at a special board meeting. She starts Friday; the first day of school is Aug. 17.

Davis, however, is not new to the school district.

She was  principal before she went on a leave of absence in 2009.

“A huge piece of me was missing,” Davis said of her time on leave. “I just missed working with students and parents.”

Davis replaces Terri Stromfeld, who was hired as Almond’s principal in 2008 but resigned her post at the beginning of summer, said district Superintendent Jeff Baier. Stromfeld will work for the Union School District in San Jose as a coordinator for staff development and special projects, according to the district's website.

Baier said Thursday night that the hiring and interview process was almost all-inclusive of the school community, consisting of Almond staff, teachers, parents and district administration.

Davis said in the time she was away from the district she missed the community. Now she returns, with much excitement, to a position that is busy from the get-go, with back to school events on top of everything else.

"She was a great addition to our school then, and we’re looking forward to having her back,” Baier said.

A total of 28 new teachers were hired for the new school year, according to Alyssa Gallagher, assistant superintendent of instruction.
