MVLA High Students Excel in Exit Exam Results

Tenth graders from Mountain View-Los Altos Union School District met and surpassed the state average.

 

Students in the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District did better than the average student statewide in their California High School Exit Exam (CHASEE), the department of education test scores showed Wednesday.

In math, 92 percent of 882 tenth graders in schools passed their CHASEE exam, compared to 84 percent of students statewide. In English, 93 percent out of 890 tenth graders who took the CHASEE passed, compared to 87 percent across the state.

At , 95 percent of the students passed, at , 92 percent passed, and at Alta Vista, 58 percent passed. About 50 percent of Los Altos residents attend Los Altos High, and about 50 percent attend Mountain View High.  

Each year, the state of California mandates that public schools administer the CHASEE to 10th graders as a way to show statewide competency in math, reading and writing skills.

If a high school sophomore fails the test, they have up to seven additional opportunities before graduation to pass. According to results released by the California Department of Education, 84 percent of sophomores passed the test in the 2011-2012 school year, and 95 of all students passed by the time they finished their senior year. The 95 percent mark shows a sixth straight year of improvement.
