Los Altos Whiz Kid: Salvador Chavez

The Los Altos Patch's 'Whiz Kid of the Week' is Salvador Chavez, a senior at Los Altos High School, who mentors young students and helps the local Latino community.

Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local soccer team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kids honoree.

Each week, Los Altos Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. We want to hear about these great children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.  Submit your nomination in our comment box below.

Whiz Kid’s Accomplishments: In addition to excelling in his advanced classes, Salvador is an up-and-coming photographer and gives back to his fellow students and community by mentoring elementary students and donating his time to the Latin Student Union, spreading awareness about his culture around campus. Salvador was recognized as Los Altos High School's "Student of the Month" for February by the Mountain View-Los Altos High School District.

Whiz Kid’s Key to Awesomeness: “For me, it’s being involved in activities I really like," says Salvador. "I really love tutoring little kids and helping the local Latino community. What motivates me is surrounding myself with people who like the same things I do, and gaining inspiration from my little brother. Also, knowing that I’m the first in my family in the U.S. to go to college. That’s really important for me.”
