Los Altos High School at Independence Invitational Competition

The marching band and color guard tackle an 'intense and challenging' classical program.

The Los Altos High School Marching Band and Color Guard competed at the Independence Invitational Competition Saturday night in San Jose.

This was the third field competition of the season, which typically features four or five competitions, said band director Ted Ferrucci. The show is called "Singulus," a challenge both musically and logistically. The selections include movements from Tchaikovsky's Sixth Symphony and Mahler's Third Symphony.

The band is looking extra-good with its brand-new uniforms, which, in Ferrucci's memory, are the first new ones since 1986.

Next Saturday, the band will compete at James Logan High School in Union City at about 6 p.m. The following week, it will be in the Western Band Association Championship in Fresno.

Come on out for an evening of music and  support the band!
