Los Altos High School was ranked No. 132 on Newsweek's list of the top high schools in the U.S. for 2013.

Bay Area schools fared well on this list of 2,000 schools, with six in the top 114, including Saratoga (No. 81), and Monte Vista High in Cupertino (No. 103).

Also making the list of top schools was Cupertino High School (No. 681) and Homestead (No. 684).

Newsweek's list highlights schools in the nation that turn out college-ready grads. The formula is based on graduation rate, college acceptance rate, AP tests, SAT scores and other similar factors.

Los Altos boasts a graduation rate of 99 percent, with 96 percent of its students college bound, and scored an impressive average of 1,801 on the SAT.

This list is ridiculous since it compares open public schools who take all comers (like our own MVLA schools) and private schools (charters, vouchers, selective) who can pick and choose their students. They might as well have thrown in Bellarmine and Pinewood while they were at it. The schools on the list that have 100% graduation rates have those statistics because they THROW OUT any student who won't otherwise graduate, or won't get into college. Real public schools can't do that. Congrats to Saratoga High, which ranks #15 in the nation if this contest wan't rigged. Los Altos High is ranked #41 in the nation among ACTUAL public high schools as well.
