The Los Altos School Board has a busy evening with the presentation of the Superintendent's Enrollment Growth Task Force, a tentative collective bargaining agreement with the Los Altos Teachers Association and discussion of alternative ways interested students can get geometry instruction for 2013-14 before.

Additionally, the district is holding a state-mandated public hearing on use of $155,220 in Tier III Categorical Funds, which allow educational bodies flexibility in using certain funds for any educational purpose permitted by state law. The district intends to use most of the funds toward deferred maintenance ($147,651.00), and the rest for reader services.

If you are coming to the meeting, expect the board room to be crowded, as students who have participated in competitions recently will be on hand to be recognized for their achievements. 

They include: 
 The following students will be recognized for receiving the Junior High School Rotary Award:
Blach School:  Douglas Curtis and Julie Daseking 
Egan School:  Katia Gibson and Zach Kaplin 

The following students will be recognized for receiving the ACSA Leadership Award: 
Blach School:  Bayley Tuch 
Egan School:  Charlize Zuraek 

The following students will be recognized for their achievements at the State Geography Bee:   
Blach School:  Sheldon Wong 
Egan School:  Sam Joffe 

Egan students Charlie Wan and Alex Wong will be recognized for taking 1st place at the Northern California Botball Regional Competition. 

The following students will be recognized for their achievements with the Margaret Thompson Historical Essay Contest: 
Third Grade:  Zara Lokuge, Gardner Bullis School; Dominic Chao, Loyola School; Cheryl Tolomeo, Covington School 
Fourth Grade:  Caleb Choi, Springer School; Hannah Ghaffari, Covington School 
Fifth Grade:  Sydney Enthoven, Santa Rita School 
Sixth Grade:  Sanjana Mishra, Gardner Bullis School 

The following three chess teams from Egan School will be recognized for their achievements at the State Chess Championship: 
Booster Level Team Award:  This team finished in 1st place. 
Booster Level Individual Awards:  Ryan Huang (1st place), Anand Chandra (2nd Place), Alex Wong (3rd place), Jacob Ouyang (7th place), Maksim Molchanov (10th place), Darion Jusuf (13th place), Katherine Mumm (15th place), Brian Li (17th place), Javin Pombra (21st place), Neville Taraporevala (23rd place), Nathan Liu (26th place) and Brian Chin (44th place). 

Junior Varsity Team Award:  This team finished in 1st place. 
Junior Varsity Individual Awards:  Lucas Nguyen (1st place), Daniel Wang (2nd place), Louie McConnell (3rd place) and Jonathan Shi (5th place). 

Championship Team Award:  This team finished in 11th place. 
Championship Individual Performance:  Henry Ma (31st place) and Richard Wang (54th place).
