Los Altos School Board

Dear Mr. Chairman,

Find out what's happening in Los Altoswith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Thank you for including the public in the latest round of the Prop 39 process to find facilities for the Bullis Charter School.  This is not an easy process for any involved and the community has had the opportunity to see this first hand.

I have read your latest statement on the LASD Board's position to refuse open negotiations with the Bullis Charter School Board.  I understand that the LASD board members are very busy and need to see an end to lawsuits between BCS and LASD to make more time and resources available to all students in the Los Altos school district boundaries.  However, the opportunity for open and public negotiations cannot be passed up.  This community has not had this possibility before.  Parents of the 4,500 students served by LASD would like to take advantage of this opportunity to find closure.  This could be the start to end a long conflict.

Please find the time for all or part of the board of trustees to participate in open, public negotiations with the Bullis Charter School board to develop both short- and long-term facility plans that are acceptable to both the charter school and the LASD community.

A long-term plan could be informed by the results of the Enrollment Growth Task Force.  A short-term plan could bridge our community to that long-term plan to make all of our students more successful and avoid additional legal expenses.

Sincerely yours,

Heather Rose

Mother of a student at Gardner Bullis School
