Dear Ken:

Thanks for your letters yesterday. In particular, thank you for returning a signed copy of the Facilities Use Agreement. We recognize that there was considerable dissent on your board, and the District is pleased to have this first step behind us.

Regarding dates for potential meetings between LASD and BCS: I will be meeting with the Board later this week, and we will confirm availability for Aug 27 and Aug 29 to discuss the BCS short-term (2013-14) concerns. I’d like to propose the following dates to consider long term issues: Wed Sept 4, Tues Sept 10, and Wed Sept 11. Please confirm that these dates will work for your long term negotiating team. In keeping with your preferred approach, the District would propose that Mayor Gary Waldeck facilitate the Long Term meetings, and that they be held at the Los Altos Hills Town Hall. I have already spoken with Mayor Waldeck, and he is available on those dates. He has also confirmed availability of the Los Altos Hills Town Hall.

I believe that we all stand on the precipice of a true long-term solution that could build community support and pass a bond to build new schools for both BCS and District students. This is a significant step forward for all parties.

Best wishes,

Douglas J. Smith
President, LASD Board of Trustees
