LAHS Student of the Month: Libbie Katsev

Editor of the school publication, the Talon, a member of the diving team, Libby is taking three AP courses and a has a national award from the National Council of Teachers of English.

 

Congratulations to Los Altos High's September 2012 Student of the Month, Libbie Katsev. The Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District designates this honor to a student from one or more of its high schools each month and provides the text of its nomination to Patch. Libbie was honored at the Sept. 10 meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Los Altos High School is proud to present Libbie Katsev as our student of the month. With her rigorous schedule and several roles on and off the LAHS campus, it's no surprise that Libbie is this year's first Student of the Month.

Throughout her high school career, Libbie has shown a keen interest in water sports. Freshman year she went out for the swim team and in subsequent years, Libbie has participated in the school's diving team.

Besides her abilities in sports, Libbie exhibits a great skill and passion for writing. She's demonstrated this dedication the past two years in Talon. She will continue to do so this year as Editor-in-Chief. Also, this will be Libbie's third year working for Litmag, a club at LAHS that publishes both literary and art work by students twice a year. Miss Katsev will proundly be this year's creative director for the publication.

Additionally, Libbie has wond three awards for her literary excellence. These awards include Best Poem a the poetry slam, Excellent Effort in English, and a national award for her exceptional work submitted to the National Council of Teachers of English. 

Another of Libbie's important roles is serving as the treasurer of the Gay-Straight Alliance Club (GSA). She's been part of this group for three years now.

During her senior year, Libbie is challenging herself academically with three AP classes in school and an extra AP French course online. Libbie will be spending a few hours every Sunday at a Jewish Sunday School as a teacher's aide. She hopes to attend a four-year college and pursue a field involving writing and perhaps learning another language on the side.

Los Altos High School is confient that Libbie Katsev will continue to great things in the future and we are proud to present the as September's Student of the month.
