LAHS' Student of the Month: Chip Cantrell

Congratulations to Los Altos High's December 2011 Student of the Month, Chip Cantrell. The  provided this announcement to Patch. Cantrell will be honored at the Dec. 12 school board meeting.

 is proud to present Chip Cantrell as December’s Student of the Month.

While playing three varsity sports, taking three AP classes, and participating in numerous extracurricular activities, Chip still manages to excel as a leader, serving as our ASB president.

Chip is an outstanding athlete who contributes to both school and club teams. He has been playing water polo, running track, and swimming for Los Altos since freshman year.

He has also been playing club water polo for the last two years. He served as a JV water polo captain his sophomore year and still continues to play a large leadership role on varsity. By the way, our team made it to CCS finals this year for the 3rd time in Los Altos history. His club team has also been very successful these past two years, qualifying for Junior Olympics last summer.

Additionally, Chip plays a huge leadership role at Los Altos. He has been in ASB all four years and serves as ASB president this year. He would like to be known for leading the most productive ASB class. He has also been a part of 2012 class council since freshman year, and was the Junior Class President last year. While he was president, he instituted some important changes, such as changing the way we vote on prom locations.

Chip’s leadership also extends past the classroom. During freshman and sophomore year, he was a part of Civil Air Patrol, an Air Force Auxiliary squadron. He and his fellow members of Squadron 10 trained in search and rescue for downed aircrafts. During his junior year, he was on Anna Eshoo’s Student Advisor Board where he met weekly with her staff and other local students at her office. Their job as advisors was to propose legislation on issues relevant to teens.

Next year, Chip hopes to study computer science or engineering at either the United States Naval Academy or the University of Southern California, where he would enroll in the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC).
