"I am pleased to have the opportunity to work with adult learners," Moody said in a press statement. "Adult Education is an exciting growth area in the 21st century, one that offers a richness and diversity that touches over 8,000 learners in our district annually."

Moody has been principal of Mountain View High School, for the eight years. According to the school district a search committee of students, parents and staff will be formed to help select the high school's new principal by the end of this school year.

The outgoing director of the adult education school, Laura Stefanski, will become the associate superintendent effective July 1.

"I’m excited to be working with one of the strongest and most successful Adult Education programs in the state," Moody said. "It’s great that current Director Laura Stefanski will remain in the school district to assist in my transition to this new position. I look forward to the new challenge."

A California educator for 25 years, Moody has been at MVLA for 11 years. Prior to MVLA, he directed the National Football League counseling program for migrant youth on a national level. He coordinated the Fresno County Office of Education Student Leadership program and worked as a high school counselor in Fresno and assistant principal in Clovis.

As the MVHS principal Moody has helped raise the school's academic profile. MVHS has been ranked in the top 2 percent of high schools by U.S. News and World Reports, had a top one percent ranking in Math and Science by Newsweek Magazine, has been top ranked by the California Academic Performance Index (API), and had graduates attend virtually every highly selective school in the country, according to the district.

In addition, MVHS has continued to excel in the arts, athletics, community activities and student activities.

A native of Syracuse, New York, Moody attended Syracuse University as an undergrad and completed his bachelor's degree at State University of New York-Brockport. He then earned his Pupil Personnel Service credential in California and New York, and earned his Master’s degree in Education at Fresno Pacific College and completed his administrative credential at San Jose State University.

Moody was recently inducted into the Syracuse “Hall of Fame” and Nottingham High School “Wall of Fame.”

He lives in Tracy with his wife Kathleen. Together they've raised four daughters and one son.

The next MVLA-UHSD board meeting takes place on April 22.
