Joining the Bullis Discussion? Come to Egan School Monday Night

The Los Altos School District, anticipating heavy attendance as it discusses an alternative idea for the charter school's facilities, has moved the board of Trustees meeting to Egan Jr. High School's multipurpose room.

The Los Altos School District has moved the location of Monday night's 7 p.m. board meeting to Egan Jr. High School's multipurpose room.

The district sent out the following notification to those on its meeting distribution list:

"In order to accommodate all community members who will be attending and to ensure the community has full access to board discussions, tonight's board meeting has been moved to the Egan Multipurpose Room (100 W. Portola Ave., Los Altos)."

The attached agenda, the school district's notification said, reflects only a location change. The agenda remains the same.

The discussion of the Bullis Charter School (BCS) facilities offer is the main reason for the heavy interest in a board meeting that is normally accomodated in the district board room on Covington Road. The members of the ten PTAs and the Los Altos Education Fund wrote an open letter to the community expressing their desire to keep all district schools open.

The district and the charter school are in Superior Court legal proceedings stemming from the finding that the district applied incorrect methodology in calculating space in order to provide state-mandated facilities that are "reasonably equivalent." The district is mandated to find a solution that provides such facilities. There has been between representatives of the district and BCS in March. Members of the school board, BCS's board and district parents' representatives have been in informal ad-hoc discussions about wide-ranging matters of mutual interest to the charter school and the district.

The Bullis Charter School facilities discussion, and a possible bond measure for the November ballot, are Items G.1. and G.2., respectively on the agenda.
