County Wants Schools Chief From Outside of Education

The board of trustees will search non-profits, business and government for the next county superintendent, who needs to react to big changes in education.

Citing an era when philanthropic dollars going to charter schools at the expense of public schools, the Santa Clara County Board of Education is widening its search to look outside education circles to find a leader to replace retiring superintendent Charles Weis.

The board voted 6-1 to seek a waiver from the state that requires that superintendents have a California administrative services credential, reporter Sharon Noguchi of the Mercury News reported Saturday.
