Bullis Charter School Letter on FUA

Bullis Charter School and Los Altos School District continue a verbal sparring match over a contested Facilities Use Agreement.

The stalemate continues between Bullis Charter School and Los Altos School District over a Facilities Use Agreement for the upcoming school year. BCS sent a letter to the Bullis community Monday morning. The letter is published in full.

Dear BCS Parents,

As you probably know, roughly two weeks ago the elected officials of the LASD Board deliberately changed the locks on the public school facilities allocated to BCS at the Blach School site to prevent our teachers from having access to the classrooms to prepare for the upcoming school year.

Representatives of the BCS Board of Directors and our legal team have been working relentlessly behind the scenes to get the doors unlocked. It has always been our intention and our desire to work with the LASD board in good faith to get this resolved in a manner that is fair for ALL public school students. Unfortunately, LASD Trustees have once again chosen to prioritize their own agenda over the rights and best interests of all public school children.

This weekend, BCS Superintendent/Principal Wanny Hersey signed a Facilities Use Agreement (FUA) as requested by LASD. This FUA addresses the concerns raised by LASD
in recent discussions, and now it is time for the District to unlock the doors.

Many concerned BCS parents have personally reached out to ask what they can do to help. At this point, my advice is to make sure LASD Trustees and the local community hear their concerns. BCS parents have an opportunity to speak directly to the LASD Board about this issue Monday night (tonight) at 7pm at the District Offices (201 Covington Road) at their regularly scheduled board meeting.

In the meantime, please be assured that Wanny and the entire staff are ready to begin teaching at BCI (Bullis Center for Innovation) as soon as we get the keys. I know that with

our incredible staff and dedicated families, we will make this year – our tenth year as a charter school – the best yet.

Sincerely,
Ken Moore
BCS Board Chair
