Bullis Charter School Announces Two New Board Members

The appointment of Sang Yoo and Jennifer Carolan was made to complement the growth of the school to 600 students.

The following announcement was provided by the Bullis Charter School Board of Directors. Los Altos Patch carried an article on June 24 of the appointment of the new board members, in the CoverItLive event portion of the meeting.

The Board of Directors for Bullis Charter School (BCS) has added two new members: Jennifer Carolan and Sang Yoo.

This expands the Board from seven members to nine, reflecting the growth of the school in recent years as registration tops 600 students.

"Jennifer and Sang both bring great insights into public education and, as parents of Bullis students, they truly understand the needs of our students and teachers," said Ken Moore, Board Chairman.

“Enrollment continues to increase as we enter our 10th year as a charter school, and the added support from Jennifer and Sang will help us continue to provide an innovative education for all of our students.”

Carolan has been an influential presence in public education across the Silicon Valley since she began teaching in the Palo Alto Unified School District ten years ago. Since then, she has earned a master’s degree in curriculum and teacher education from Stanford, where she also taught Innovations in Teaching at Hasso Plattner’s Institute of Design at Stanford (d.school).

Carolan is currently a managing partner at NewSchools Venture Fund, a venture philanthropy fund focused on transforming public education so that all children—especially those in underserved communities—have the opportunity to succeed. She leads the company's Seed Fund, which provides seed capital to early-stage education technology companies. Carolan also serves on the Boards of Equal Opportunity Schools and BetterLesson.

Yoo is a trusted voice in the BCS parent community, and has been actively involved as a parent volunteer at BCS for the past five years. Most recently, she served as the Chair of the Bullis Boosters Club, an organization committed to the success of BCS mission thru support of its staff and students.

Yoo previously held hardware engineering and management positions at several technology companies that produced high-end microprocessors and workstations for professional and technical applications. She has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University.

"With her experience working with education ventures, Jennifer is very accustomed to thinking in new directions and finding fresh solutions, and those skills will be a tremendous asset to Bullis," said Moore.

"Because Sang has been a key part of the Bullis culture over the past five years, she is tremendously knowledgeable about almost every facet of the campus, and its programs and curriculum. There's not a resource we have that she isn't aware of, and we'll be able to make the most of everything we have with her ideas and insights."
