2012 MVHS Plays Charlie Cook's Kind of Ball

From the seats of Chester F. Awalt Gymnasium last Friday, an alumnus and sports writer reminisces about the recently departed basketball coach, in the days before the shot clock.

Palo Alto Daily News reporter John Reid pays a fond tribute to Awalt High School basketball coach Charlie Cook, who died at 88 Jan. 16.

The Palo Alto resident coached at Mountain View High when it was downtown, Reid wrote, then moved to Awalt, (now renamed Mountain View High). He taught more than basketball, Reid wrote. He taught high principles and his impact was felt all over.
