Sunday on Tap: Happy Birthday Los Altos! Candidates! And Art!

Hit the candidates' forums at the library, swing by Los Altos Hills Town Hall for wine and jazz to kick off the Mitchell L. Bricker retrospective. And as a weekend capper, do the tour! Historical characters interpret Los Altos' beginnings

 

Saturday was awesome, but check out what's in store Sunday afternoon in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. There's also an opportunity at the Los Altos Library to get boned up on the hot races in our area!

1. What: Los Altos School District Candidate Forum

Where/When: Los Altos Library Community Room / 1:45 to 3 p.m. Sunday

Why Go: This year, the Los Altos School Board has four candidates for two seats, and the challenges have never been higher. Hear what Amanda Burke-Aaronson, Vladimir Ivanovic, Pablo Luther and Steve Taglio have to say on the key issues. Stay for the Foothill-De Anza Community College District Forum starting immediately afterwards.

2. What: Retrospective of the work of Mitchell L. Bricker 

Where/When: Los Altos Hills Town Hall, 23679 Fremont Road / 2-5 p.m. Sunday

Why Go: The town is hosting a reception and art sale 2-5 pm. at Los Altos Hills Town Hall (26379 Fremont Road). The figurative oil paintings of the late Los Gatos artist Mitchel L. Bricker . The former CEO and head designer of graphic design firm Bricker Associates, included Sysco, Atari and Rolm among its customers. Live jazz, gourmet refreshments and works by Bricker and Nina Leone Bricker, a local art instructor whose pastels and watercolors will also go on display.The exhibit hangs in town hall through March 1. 3. What: Foothill De Anza Community College District Forum

Where/When: Los Altos Library Community Room/ 3:45 to 5 p.m., Sunday

Why Go: Often it's the special districts that get overlooked in the big election years. The Foothill-De Anza Community College District faces tremendous challenges with the funding picture at the state level. The four candidates vying  for three seats include Joan Barram, Betsy Bechtel, Laura Casas-Friar, and Geby Espinosa.

4. What: "Hidden History" Walking Tour

Where / When: Maria's Antiques, 288 First Street / 4- 7 p.m., Sunday

Why Go: Invest a short hour to tour downtown Los Altos as it might have been, with costumed docents interpreting colorful historical personages! Then finish it off in festive style with post-walk party of fine wines, vintage cars and the Wells Fargo stagecoach. The tour starts at the S.P. depot (most recently Maria’s Antiques 288 First St) followed by the party that ends at the Los Altos History Museum, and includes a commemorative print. Don’t miss it!
