Last year, Assemblyman Gordon successfully wrote and carried two key pieces of legislation affecting state recycling programs. AB 1149 expanded California’s Plastic Market Development Program and provided $20 million in additional funding. This provided additional incentives for California-based companies to re-manufacture plastics in-state, and has created hundreds of green jobs, according to Gordon's office.

Additionally, AB 525 reauthorized the waste tire grant program to keep tires out of the landfills.

Currently, Gordon is carrying two bills to protect the California Beverage Container Recycling Program – CRV funds (AB 1933) and the California Tire Recycling Act (AB 1647).  Both bills are currently pending in the Senate.

Assemblyman Gordon was named a 2012 Legislator of the Year alongside Senator Alex Padilla (San Fernando Valley).
