Rich Gordon Files for Re-Election

Competition for the new 24th District seat is Menlo Park stay-at-home dad George Yang and man with "visions."

California State Assemblyman Rich Gordon (D-21) has announced that he is running for re-election, placing him in competition for the seat with a stay-at-home dad from Menlo Park, Chengzhi “George” Yang.

The San Mateo County Elections Office Candidate Roster lists four running for the 24th District seat on State Assembly. Political unknowns Jay Blas Jacob Cabrera and Joseph Antonelli Rosas Jr. are also running for the seat.

Gordon, a Menlo Park resident, represents the 21st Assembly District, which encompasses Redwood City, San Carlos, Menlo Park, Atherton, East Palo Alto, Woodside, Los Altos Hills, Los Gatos, Palo Alto and Portola Valley and parts of San Jose.

However, when the Citizens Redistricting Commission redrew the boundaries for the district in August 2011 to account for the population changes that took place in the past decade, it relabeled the area District 24.

The new district boundaries will be in effect after the June 5 election and includes many of the old cities, and picks up La Honda, Half Moon Bay, Stanford, Mountain View, and El Granada. Leaving that district, however, are Los Gatos and parts of San Jose, which move into District 28, and San Carlos and Redwood City, which shift into District 22

The election will take place June 5.
