Possible Parcel Tax, Blach School Flood Control, Traffic Concerns Airing Tonight

What to expect at the joint schools-council subcommittee meeting in the Redwood Room at City Hall? Quite a bit. Read on.

The Los Altos School Board's full list of big decisions and changes dominates the joint meeting with the City Council Tuesday night. And it's a doozy.

If you want to get the lowdown of what's on the near horizon, sit in on Los Altos City Council Schools Subcommittee meeting at 6 p.m. in the Redwood Room at City Hall.

It's going to be an eventful year.

Top of the list is the Blach School traffic issue, on which Los Altos Patch has reported, and the school board's consideration of the proposed flood control project at Blach, which has neighbors up in arms.

But the weighty concern of whether a school parcel tax measure will be placed on the ballot this spring—how much and when—will also be aired with the City Council during this subcommittee hearing. School board members discussed at the Jan. 10 meeting the possibility of a $193-$249 parcel tax measure on the May ballot. This will precede the June general election ballot, on which Gov. Jerry Brown hopes to have tax measures, as well.

Los Altos School District is also mulling over changing its elections to even years, as more and more municipalities and school districts begin converting to even years, creating a domino-effect, because fewer and fewer entities remain that can share the cost of holding an election during the odd years.

Several other issues remain, which you can see on the PDF of the meeting agenda on this page, to the right and above. --->

Or, below is the same list of agenda items:
