Los Altos Hills held a ground breaking ceremony Friday to celebrate the start of a $1.08 million dollar project under the Safe Routes to Schools program.
The improvement project will provide an off-road passage so school kids and pedestrians can travel safely along Fremont Road and it removes some of the unsightly utility poles that are dangerously close to the road, according to Mayor Rich Larsen.
The project stretches along Fremont Road between Edith Avenue (south of the bridge) and Concepcion Road.
VTA partnered with the town, paying for 74 percent. Los Altos Hills paid for the remainder.
On hand were Mayor Larsen, VTA Executive Policy Advisor Jim Lawson, Council member Ginger Summit, Council member John Radford, and former Mayor Breene Kerr.
