Council, School Board to Discuss 10th Campus

The Los Altos City Council calls for a joint meeting with the Los Altos School District Board to collaborate on finding a tenth campus, and other issues.

After momentarily appearing as combatants over a 10th school campus, Los Altos’ city council and school board now seem committed to being collaborators, and may soon meet face to face.

During its on Tuesday meeting, the Los Altos City Council called for a joint meeting between the two bodies in the near future to discuss how they can work together on finding a site, among other issues.

In the meantime, the city’s City/Schools Issues Standing Committee is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. on May 15, in the council chambers at 1 N. San Antonio Rd.

The action comes after , when council members let it be known they were unhappy with talk that some Los Altos School District (LASD) board members were contemplating taking the former Hillview school campus, now a part of the civic center, by eminent domain.

Board members told Patch then, and continued to stress at , that the district was not contemplating taking that action.

The backdrop of the issue is that the board is under pressure from a recent state appeals court decision over Bullis Charter School that has triggered a search for a 10th campus for the district’s students.

“They are subject to a court order, time is running, and I would like to be in there helping, not hindering, and so if there’s anything we can do to help them, I’d like to be in there to do that,” Councilmember Ron Packard said at Tuesday’s council meeting.
