Hold the Hairspray; Spare the Air

It's going to be hot inland on Tuesday and the air quality folks would like you to drive less and knock off the gas-powered lawn mowers, abstain from lighter fluid, and, try not to use hair spray!

Bay Area residents are encouraged to drive less and reduce energy usage as part of Tuesday's Spare the Air Day, the Bay Area Air Quality District announced.

The Spare the Air Day marks the second of the summer season and first since June 16. Driving less and cutting energy use is encouraged by the agency to reduce pollution levels, which can heighten health concerns when temperatures are high, the air district said.

In addition to using alternative transportation means, the air district is encouraging the residents to avoid using gas-powered leaf blowers  (which are already banned in Los Altos) or lawn mowers, lighter fluid on barbecues, and using aerosol spray cans and hairspray.
