District 1 Vacancy Provides Opening on School Committee

Nov. 3 death of District 1 committee member Steve Glickman must be filled by Jan. 21.

Correction: Applicants must come from the District 1 Supervisorial District, which includes most of south Santa Clara County and West Valley, encompassing all or parts of the following school districts: Cambrian, Franklin-McKinley, Gilroy Unified, Lakeside Union, Loma Prieta Joint Union, Los Gatos Union, Morgan Hill Unified, Oak Grove, San Jose Unified, Saratoga Union, and Union. Los Altos Patch erroneously reported the District 1 boundaries of the Santa Clara County Board of Education.

The Santa Clara County Committee for School District Reorganization needs to fill a position following the death of one of its members last month.

The committee is empowered by the state education code and its main responsibility is reorganization of school districts, through territory transfers and unification.

The county committee on school district organization has a major role in the review and approval of proposals to change school district organization in the county.

The District 1 of Santa Clara County includes all, or parts of, the following school districts: Cambrian, Franklin-McKinley, Gilroy Unified, Lakeside Union, Loma Prieta Joint Union, Los Gatos Union, Morgan Hill Unified, Oak Grove, San Jose Unified, Saratoga Union, and Union.

Persons interested in being considered for the appointment should contact Suzanne Carrig in the Superintendent's Office at (408) 453-6869 or e-mail at suzanne_carrig@sccoe.org.  An application should consist of a letter of intent to serve and a brief résumé of the individual’s background and experience that would contribute to participation in the activities of the County Committee. 

If the position is not filled by the committee, the appointment will be made by Charles Weis, Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools.
