Bullis Ideas: Los Altos & Mountain View Could Work Together

We asked Patch readers how to solve the Bullis Charter School issue.

Editor's note: On New Year's Day, Los Altos Patch asked readers to contribute ideas, large and small, to helping to resolve the facilities issue regarding Bullis Charter School and the Los Altos School District (LASD). It could be as simple as an approach, or a more fully thought-out plan.

Some have written about sites for their advantages and disadvantages, others have written about ideas that go beyond the charter school to address growing enrollment. We don't expect a magic bullet to appear, but who knows? The point was to start the new year out on a positive and constructive note, with members of our community thinking about solutions and a way forward.

We are publishing one each day. This letter below is the first of several we have received, and we welcome more contributions from readers:

It would be cool if ...

Los Altos worked closer with Mountain View, and when a large complex like the one at El Camino Real and San Antonio Road was built, the builder should have been required to also build a school‚ as part of the planning.

Many planned communities require that private builders build a school, firehouse, or park as part of the city design process. This large complex going up will have kids that will end up going to LASD schools.

The other option is to form a non-profit foundation and look for private donations, etc., including land donations.

Los Altos/Los Altos Hills is such an amazing community and wonderful town built on good neighbors, schools, and businesses; We need to do everything "collectively" we can to keep it that way.

Have an idea? Whether it's just a thought, or much more comprehensive, let's hear it! Los Altos Patch wants to expand the civic conversation in the new year. The aim is to help the community. Keep it civil, use your full name, and be constructive.
