Apricot Annie's Update: The Trees Are Coming Out on First Street, Plus More

Here's what happening on First Street the week of Aug. 8-12, and here's what took place in the week we just had.

Los Altos Patch is an Apricot Annie fan.

Each week, Annie's Update, more prosaically named "First Street Construction Update," lands in email boxes all over. This service began when First Street construction ramped up three weeks ago.

The chief headlines for what's coming up next week:

  •  The trees along First Street are being removed (only two of nine were saved during Wedneday's special City Council meeting)
  • Saturday construction will commence  
  • One-way traffic continues on First Street between State and North Parking Plaza, while they complete trenching work.

Anyway, Los Altos Patch thinks the more you know about First Street's construction, the better it is when you go downtown.

Scheduled for the week of August 8-12

• Create concrete molds (formwork) for new curb and gutter installation

• Pour new concrete for curbs & gutters adjacent to First & Main intersection area

• Fill-in & compact all gas trenches (backfill)

• Dig new sewer trench

• Remove trees as determined by revised plan (!! editorial exclamation points here)

• Install straw waddles and fencing around remaining trees to protect them during construction

• Contractor will begin working on Saturdays for the next few weeks (!)

Traffic Update

• One way traffic on First Street between State & Plaza North 7:00 am to 5:00 pm while trenching.

Outreach Updates:

• Apricot Annie continued meeting with community groups to ask for input and provide updates. If your group is interested in a visit from Annie, please email Beverly at btucker@losaltosca.gov

The public is welcome to ask questions at a weekly meeting of all city and contracted project professionals meet at 3 p.m. every Thursday in the Chamber of Commerce offices, 321 University Avenue, Los Altos.
