Annie's Updates: Openings on First Street 'Phased' From Sept. 26 to Oct. 31

Check the FirstStreet website weekly for an update to the map showing the rolling reopening dates. Sidewalks will open in six phases.

Merchants and residents can look forward to a phased reopening of First Street later this month and next, according to the latest update on First Street construction.

Merchants and customers of businesses from that stretch of First Street from Main to State streets, however, might need to meditate or take a patience pill.

According to the map posted on the construction website, firststreetlosaltos.org, the intersection of First and Main streets is set to open Sept. 26. The section of First Street between Main and State Streets, however, isn't scheduled for reopening until Oct. 31. And that's with crews working seven days a week, as they have been since Sept. 6.

Each week, Annie's Update, more prosaically named "First Street Construction Update," lands in email boxes all over town. This service began when First Street construction ramped up in July, after the Arts & Wine Festival. Each week Patch provides an abridged version of the update.

Here's what the city expects to do this coming week:

    •    Create sidewalk forms for First & Main intersection
    •    Begin pouring first phase of sidewalk concrete
    •    Begin pouring concrete for the first Chevron driveway
    •    Begin demolition of Main Street between Foothill Expressway and the current work area at First Street
    •    Begin grading for new Main Street road way adjacent to Foothill Expressway
    •    Extend new curb and gutter forms up Main Street towards Foothill Expressway

Each Thursday afternoon at 3:00 pm throughout the project, construction update meetings will be held in the Chamber of Commerce Conference Room, 321 University Ave. The next meeting is September 15. If you're unable to attend the meeting, sign up for weekly email updates.
