A Palo Alto woman was attacked in her home as she slept early this morning. She told police that she awakened to find a man in her bedroom. She screamed and fought off her attacker, who got away. The woman suffered a bruised wrist in the struggle.
She called 9-1-1 for help. Police arrived two minutes later and began scouring the neighborhood. A tracking dog was brought in by Mountain View Police but the suspect got away.
Police call the attack an attempted sexual assault. "It appears as though the suspect gained entry to the residence by forcing open the front door of the residence," police said in a prepared statement. The victim is a woman in her 20s.
The woman did not know her attacker. She described him as having an average build. He wore a hooded dark jacket or sweatshirt and dark pants. Beyond that, she couldn't describe him.
The attack happened in the 100 block of Hawthorne Avenue. The 9-1-1 call was made at 2:21 a.m.
