The Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of driving under the influence (DUI) arrests from local routine traffic enforcement and special “Avoid the 13” DUI deployments during the past several days in Santa Clara County.

While complete results are not yet available, pending results from some agencies, preliminary numbers show that from 12:01 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, through midnight, Monday, Dec. 31, officers representing Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies arrested 413 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2011, 448 DUI arrests occurred during the same time period.

Early results show eight arrests in Los Altos.

Extra DUI Saturation Patrols have been deployed in the cities of Mountain View, Los Altos, Palo Alto, Santa Clara, San Jose, Cupertino, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, and the town of Los Gatos.

The CHP also deployed all available officers for their Maximum Enforcement Period during the New Year’s holiday weekend which ended at midnight Tuesday, Jan. 1.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
